I write today urging you to OPPOSE S.8306B-New part EEE in the Senate’s 2025 proposed budget and A.8808B - Part O in the Assembly’s 2025 proposed budget. If enacted, this will hurt many hard-working IBEW members who keep the electricity running throughout our state.
This language would designate the Building and Construction Trade Labor Organization to negotiate a PLA for all workers on a project, including transmission work, even though IBEW members who build transmission do not belong to the Building and Construction Trades Organization. This scheme would strip IBEW members from this work and threaten the livelihoods of electrical workers throughout the state.
This is detrimental for not only IBEW 1249 members working on these projects, but for skilled electrical workers across the state who are already doing transmission work and cannot belong to the building trades.
With the stroke of a pen, you will be eliminating the ability for thousands of skilled workers to provide for their families. S.8306B – Part EEE and A. 8808B – Part O are bad for workers and their families, bad for small businesses and communities, and bad for New York State.
