I write today to strongly support placing the 9/11 Memorial under the administration of the United States National Parks Service (NPS) and making it a true national memorial.
Unbeknownst to the vast majority of Americans, a private entity currently operates the memorial. This differs from the Flight 93 memorial in Shanksville, PA which is already under NPS administration. Even the 9/11 Pentagon Memorial sits on Department of Defense property.
As we approach the 25th anniversary of the horrific attacks of September 11th, 2001, one shouldn’t need reminding of the loss of that day. 2,753 victims lost their lives for our country. Twenty-five years later, that number has surpassed 5,000, with thousands more sick and/or dying.
I stand with the 9/11 families and agree that it is time for our 9/11 Memorial to take its place among America’s great national monuments administered by the United States National Park Service.
