Honorable
President Garcia and Members of the SUSD School Board,
As a SUSD
parent, resident and/or employee, I am appalled by the resolution to disband
the Stockton Unified School District Police Department presented by Trustee
Luntao.
This
resolution seeks to take the tragic and unnecessary death of George Floyd and
attempt to use that as a political platform to remove the Stockton Unified
School District Police Department from SUSD, which would put OUR children at
risk.
Unfortunately,
we all know that Stockton has a reputation for being a dangerous city. We also
know that school violence has risen over the last several years, and I sleep
well at night knowing we have the Stockton Unified School District Police
Department protecting OUR students and OUR schools.
The
Stockton Unified School District Police Department is one of the largest and
one of the most respected school police departments in the nation.
We
understand recent national events have deeply hurt our community. However, our
department is hurting too. The Stockton Unified School District Police
Department treats our students, staff and visitors with the utmost respect
because we are quite literally safeguarding the future of our
communities.
Bottom
line: Please do not allow the safety of OUR children and schools to be
jeopardized.
School
safety is a massive priority for my SUSD family, and I know it is for you as
well.
Please do
not pander to the political divisiveness of this resolution put forward by
Trustee Luntao. Vote no on the resolution to disband the Stockton Unified
School District Police Department so our children and schools can remain
safe.
Respectfully,
